Since I am so focused on getting my body back in shape this year (along with several other goals), I’ve decided to try weekly weigh in posts for awhile. That will make you, my readers, my accountability partners. I haven’t quite decided how I want to approach these weigh in posts, but I’m going to give it a shot anyway. My weigh in day is Friday, so when I talk about the week, it will mean from the previous to current Friday..just so we’re all on the same page.
Food
I’ll admit, the weekend was rough. Saturday we had a potluck at my church after the evening worship service. While all the food there is tasty, it isn’t always the most nutritious situation to be in. While I did take the time to enjoy some goodies like home made enchiladas, pasta, and caramels, I made it a point to only have a taste of the things I wanted. That ended up giving me a full enough plate, and guess what: I was full and didn’t go back for more! Score: Brianna: 1 Potluck: 0
Mister and I celebrated two years of wedded bliss (or wedded craziness, depending on how you look at it) on Jan 4. Since he usually travels on Mondays (and doesn’t return until Thursdays) and the 4th was a Monday, we decided to go out on Sunday night. That had us at Longhorn Steak house where I ate a delicious filet, french onion soup and a sweet potato. Thanks to the restaurants section in the Weight Watchers app, I was able to track this and feel guilt free about our delicious meal. Thanks to his team leader, he didn’t end up having to leave on Monday after all (even though he did work all day from home), so we went out again, this time to Portillo’s, a Chicago favorite. There I got a BBQ salad, and my big splurge, which was a piece of their decadent, to die for chocolate cake.
Once Mister left on Tuesday it was back to the grind for me as well. The Smart Points plan emphasizes the need for protein, and for a good reason. I definitely notice that when I eat protein, especially first thing in the morning, I am significantly less hungry the rest of the day. With a kitchen stocked with foods like non fat Greek yogurt (Dannon Light & Fit is only 2 sp), egg whites, fat free cheese, cottage cheese, and a ton of Quest nutrition products (bars, powder, and chips), it has been very easy for me to stay filled up on protein. Last night I actually ended up going to bed with Smart Points left over, simply because I had no desire to eat to use up the rest of them. I will take that as a win any day.
Fitness
As a general rule, Sundays are my rest days. My goal is to get my workout on, usually by going to the gym, all other days of the week. I was successful in doing so this week, so A+ there. Yesterday I didn’t go to the gym because I was pressed for time, so instead I tried out Daily Burn on the Apple TV. I opted for a kickboxing workout, and other than the fact it stopped playing 6 different times (yay technology..) it was a great workout. While some workouts were more effective than others, I at least managed to break a sweat and reach my FitBit step goal every day! PS How awesome is the workout top my sister got me for Christmas?? No truer words have been worn my me. lol
Other Stuff
I went into this work week feeling highly motivated, as it was the first week off of the holiday vacation. I’m fired up about my goals, but with that sometimes comes a bit of overwhelm, which I suppose is normal. I’m hoping that after another week or so with my eating and fitness back on track, I will sink back into the natural habits of healthy living, rather than having to fend off cravings for sweets and drag my less than enthused body to the gym. All in good time.
So, what’s the weigh in then? *drumroll*
My Weigh In
Weight -/+: -3.4 lbs !!
Epic win! However, this still puts me at +0.6 lbs on the Weight Watchers App, as I did what you’re not supposed to do and avoided logging my weigh ins during the holiday weeks. My last logged weigh in was December 18th. Basically, today’s weigh in is a huge win because it means I got rid of all of the weight I put on from Christmas, eating out with family visiting, New Years, and anniversary outings. I am SO pleased.
So there we have it, my first official weekly weigh in post of 2016. I haven’t quite decided what my new goal weight is yet, but I’m guessing I’ve got roughly 30lbs to get to it. Yeah..2015 got me that out of control. Major blow to the self esteem for sure.. I’ll keep you posted, friends.
Wow! Great job! I go tomorrow morning!
Hope it went well. I’m loving the new plan.
Well done. I too am motivated for 2016. I have some yoga and strength training goals I want to smash!
Go get those goals!
Love your journey and you are right CHURCH is a Deadly Sin towards folks this time of the year for making smart choices or improving their lifestyle! I have adopted eating graprefruit more esp after breakfast and lunch!

I’m starting my tracking tomorrow, and can’t wait to see how different the SP system is compared to the points plus. I do love that they emphasize protein more now, because that was always something that bugged me about points plus! Congrats on the loss 🙂
I’m loving the new plan in general. It just ends up a pain when you’re wanting dessert, because the SP values skyrocket when you add sugar. I get it, it’s a lot better for us, but the seat tooth in me still has a lot of adjusting to do. Eat a lot of protein and it should be fine. Good luck!
