The Friday 5: Sept 20, 2013

Happy Friday, my friends!  There’s not a whole lot to update you on in the Erik & Brianna apartment this week.  Life has been moving full force for both of us with 3 jobs for me and classes for him.

Cooler Weather

Probably the most notable exciting thing that has happened this week is the weather has changed a bit and it’s actually sweater weather in the mornings and evenings now.  It’s rainy and 63 degrees right now, and while I could pass on the rain, it is a really nice change to crack open the sliding door and m bedroom window and let some fresh air in and keep the air conditioner off.  3 days and counting without the AC on, which means a slightly lower electric bill and a quieter space (you should hear this thing when it turns on…).  It still gets up to mid 80s or so at some point during the day, but the heat is no longer blazing, which is a nice change.  If it wanted to stay like this for awhile, I’d be perfectly okay with that.

iOS 7

Yeah, I’m that nerdy girl who will blog about iOS 7.  I won’t get all “tech specs” on you, but I will say this: I like it.  It takes some getting used to, but I think it’s very pretty, and I like pretty things.  I like the new transitions, the look, the wallpapers they offer (currently have a brightly colored thing going in my home screen), and the new ringtones and sounds.  Small details like the square frame option for the camera (perfect for Instagram users like me) show how much they’re thinking of the little things.  Among my busy week, this is one of the things I had to look forward to, so I’m glad I didn’t end up disappointed.  I love getting new things, and free new things are the best kind, right?  I had a major issue downloading it, but 10th time was the charm and eventually everything worked out fine.  Happy day for my iPhone and I.

Pumpkin Oatmeal

Recipe of the day: Pumpkin Oatmeal.  I’ve been eating this quite often because it’s festive fall-flavored awesomeness in the morning.  Maple Brown Sugar oatmeal (I use the Weight Watchers cups because they’re only 3 Points) and canned pure pumpkin are a dynamic duo of satisfaction.  I simply make the oatmeal like normal (add water, 1 minute in the microwave) then add as much canned pure pumpkin as I want.  Because pumpkin is a vegetable, I can add as much as i want for no additional Points! Then I dump on a very generous amount of cinnamon, mix and enjoy.  It pairs great with a cup of coffee with sugar free Pumpkin Spice creamer.  If you’re into pumpkin at all, this is an epic way to start an autumn (or winter) day.  For only 3 Points Plus, that’s a bargain.

The Headache that Won’t Go Away

For the last week or so I’ve had this headache, right on the temples and behind my forehead, that is usually under control…unless of course I stand up, bend over, or sneeze.  Then there is a rather awesome (sarcasm.) pain that chooses to pulse the entire front of my head and disorient me for a few seconds.  Bothered by the fact my usual “one good dose of Ibuprofen and it’s gone” method didn’t work, I started down my checklist:  Dehydration? Drank more water, didn’t work.. More protein? Nope.. Too much caffeine? Stopping for a few days didn’t help.  Not enough caffeine?? (I can dream, can’t I?).  Not that either.  Accompanied by an irritated throat and an odd sinus feeling, my mom (a nurse, who I go to for all things medical if I can’t figure it out myself) suggested that while my nose isn’t stuffed, perhaps the tubes in my ears are, so I’ve earned myself a few days of constant Sudafed dosages.  Day two starts today, and hopefully by the weekend this problem will be gone.  I’m not usually one to complain about things like this, but when bending over or standing up, which I do regularly at two of my 3 jobs (bending to get a bag every transaction at Kohls?  Yeah….not fun with this), it is a problem I can’t just ignore until it goes away.  I’ve heard we’re entering an allergy season down here, so perhaps that’s my issue.  A twisted combination of sinus pressure and crazy amounts of tension in my shoulders and neck (which I really wasn’t aware of until Erik offered to massage my shoulders before bed last night to see if he could help) does not ha happy head make.  Any thoughts or prayers for healing would be nice.  I’m not dying by any means, but it’s inconvenient for a woman who likes to be constantly on the move.

What Happens “After ‘Ever After’ ?? “

As I have nothing else to say, I will offer you this: a great a capella Disney Princess parody.  Yes, a bit offensive, but freaking hilarious, AND the fact this guy sang all 4 parts himself and put this video together (oh, and wrote the thing) is quite impressive.  So, here’s your 4 minute break for the day.  I hope it makes you laugh at least once.
