Lately I have been seeing a lot of skin care companies coming out with their own version of the Clairsonic facial brush. Electronic facial cleansing brushes seem to be all the rage right now, and I can see why. Being a Clairsonic Mia owner myself, I thoroughly enjoy the deep clean I get every time I use that brush. Being an oily and acne prone skin type, this facial cleansing brush world we live in has been a really nice addition to my skincare routine. After seeing all of these wannabe Clairsonics hitting the stores, I figured that all of the brushes were built sort of the same, with Clairsonic just being top of the line. And then I met Luna..
The Luna mini facial cleanser is a cleansing brush with the same purpose as a Clairsonic but a different execution. As you can see, this is all one unit. Most of it (save the little bit on the bottom) is covered in silicone. This is a really nice feature because, unlike Clairsonic, this device requires no changing of brush heads. Once you purchase this device, that’s it. For comparison, you purchase your Clairsonic, then you should change the heads every 3 months. Each head costs $25 x 4 times a year = $100 upkeep annually. Luna requires none of that. All of the bacteria and impurities just wash away. Excellent for the budget savvy skincare fan who still wants to feel spoiled.
The entire device is 100% waterproof and is charged with a USB port in your computer (or wall charger that uses USB I suppose). It’s kind of crazy to me that the little charger hole is right there getting all wet and it’s totally fine. Each charge lasts up to 300 uses! 300!! That means one charge and you’re good to throw it in your vacation bag and leave the charger at home. Fabulous! As you now see (looking at the two photos) there are different nubs (for lack of a better term) on either side. There are 1,300 of those little guys on here. Larger, stiffer ones on the side with the charging dock, and smaller, softer ones on the other. I find that 99% of the time I favor the finer bristles.
At the very bottom of the device is this plastic piece which contains a light. Luna will run for 1 minute (the minimum amount of time you should spend on cleansing) and every 15 seconds it will pulse and the light will blink, indicating you should move on to another part of your face. After a minute it pulses 3 times, telling you that it’s okay to turn it off, however it will keep running if you feel the need to cleanse for a bit longer. Luna turns on automatically at its higher speed. One click of the button turns the speed down to low and one more click turns it off.
Luna uses T-sonic technology, using transdermal sonic pulsations across the skin to whisk away dirt and impurities while giving your skin some retexturing. It’s a gentle, but very effective way to cleanse. So no brush bristles swishing back and forth, but rather just vibrations that make the little nubs work their magic.
Oh, added bonus: they come in some really cute colors!
All in all, I think this product is fantastic! I’ve been using it for about a month now, and my skin definitely notices the difference. I love using it with my LUSH cleansers, my gentle cleansers and I even tried it with a lightly exfoliating cleanser and loved how my skin felt. I’m definitely giving Clairsonic a rest for awhile and seeing what a few months of this baby does for my skin.
