Another month come and gone and it’s time for my monthly favorites. Every month I curate a list of things that I’ve been using and loving all month long from all different areas of life. This month we have some food and beauty favorites, as well as some media favorites that I was particularly impressed by. Without taking too much time, let’s jump right into my favorites for the month of August.
It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Powder:I purchased this powder foundation a few months ago when I was trying to find face products formulated without talc, bismuth oxide, or silicones. This proved to be more difficult than I thought it would be. When I went to replace my old favorite powder foundation (which had talc as the first ingredient…sad day), and this powder was one of only a few options I could find. Since I know and trust the It Cosmetics brand, I decided to give it a try. While it took me a few months to appreciate it, this powder is now one of the only products I use every day.
The coverage is sheer to full, and it does, in fact, build up to a full coverage foundation, which is something I look for to cover the acne issues I have along my jawline. I apply it with my favorite flat powder foundation brush, and in less than a minute, I am out the door. There is SPF 50 build right into the powder, so when I’m out and about I don’t necessarily have to take the extra step to apply a sunscreen. I find that the IT Cosmetics powder lasts a long time, and I don’t just mean in the compact. When I apply it in the morning, I notice there is still a significant amount of product to be removed at the end of the day, whereas with other products seem to melt into the skin and be barely there at the end of the day. While some of the coverage does fade ever so slightly (and reapplication is a breeze), my skin goes all day and into the evening with a coverage that leaves me feeling good about my face. On my more recent videos, people have been complimenting my skin and make up a ton. It’s all this powder, my friends. Quick, easy, and flawless! Read more…
It’s hard to believe that September has come and gone already! I actually sent an email out to my family telling them they need to start thinking about (and sending me) their Christmas lists. Christmas!! It’s crazy how fast this year is flying by.
September was a busy month, as most months for the rest of 2017 promise to be. While I was spending a lot of time running around like a mad woman, I did have enough time to discover and fall in love with some new products. This month we’ve got some beauty stuff right alongside a few food and health related items. Every single product is something I’ve been using and loving constantly throughout the month, and I feel the need to share so you can enjoy them too!
Guys, tomorrow it’s September! Can you even believe it?? This month I have a few favorites I’ve been dying to share with you.
Urban Decay Naked Basics Palettes: I rediscovered both of my Urban Decay Naked Basics palettes and fell in love all over again. The matte (and two subtle shimmers) shades in the palettes are great for everyday wear. I found that when I didn’t really want to do my eyes, but want to have the no makeup look going on, creating an eye look with the shades in these palettes made my eyes look amazing without looking “done up.” I’m very pleased that I decided to dig these out of my drawers and I know I’ll be getting a lot more use out of them. The Naked Basics 2 is more cool toned than the original Naked Basics palette, but they’re both outstanding additions to any collection.
Bare Minerals Pro Powder Foundation: I wanted a new quick and easy foundation that (much like the eyeshadow) efficiently gave some coverage to flaws without making me look like I had a mask of face makeup on, and this new foundation by Bare Minerals did the trick. I did buy the brush that was released with this foundation. It’s a nice retractable brush that’s densely packed for better coverage. Do you need it? No, but I like that it’s covered so I can easily throw it in my purse.
Bare Minerals Gen Nude Products- I have a new lip obsession, and it’s the Bare Minerals Gen Nude Line. They have 3 different formulas, and I’m obsessed with them all. The product I’m loving least of this trio is the matte liquid lipstick, and it’s simply because I am not convinced that my lips can use matte liquid lipsticks, period. After trying quite a few formulas, this Gen Nude formula is light, smooth, and doesn’t feel the least bit drying. There is minimal transfer after it dries, and it’s comfortable to wear. Bonus: it smells amazing! Like a chocolate pudding pack I used to put in school lunches. My only issue is that I feel like it settles into my lines and defines them more, but I’ve had that issue with every single liquid matte lip I’ve tried, and it’s not nearly as bad compared to others.
The Gen Nude Radiant Lipsticks are absolutely divine. They go on buttery smooth, feel amazing, and have great shade options(medium coverage), and a glossy finish. I would reach for this product when I wanted to hydrate my lips, not just put on a dose of color. I love love LOVE these lipsticks. Read more…
Guys..we are halfway done with 2016! What kind of craziness is that?? Anyway, I’ve been way busy with non-blog related things, so my favorites are a little late, but since there were some things I’ve been dying to tell you about, I figured better late than never was appropriate here. Enjoy!
Surface Curls Firm Styling Mousse: During the summer I like to let my hair air dry and let the little bit of natural wave do its thing. This mousse is one of the more sticky foaming products I’ve tried, but it really gets the job done. I just put a little leave in conditioner in my hair and then flip my head over and scrunch a golf ball sized amount at the ends and I get separated, textured, and curly looking locks that are perfect for that natural, air dried look we love for summer.
Lush Smugglers Soul Facial Scrub($13.95): I hate to mention this because this product is a limited edition for Father’s Day (but as of this post it’s STILL available!!), but I want you all to be aware of this for next year. This is a scrub that was actually geared towards men (at least that’s what I’ve been told) as a facial exfoliant, but once I touched it in store, I knew I had to have it. There are bamboo granules ground up in here and it reminds me of the fine ground feel of a paste made with baking soda (which I’ve used as exfoliant in the past), which really gets the job done without feeling too abrasive. My skin feels amazing after using this. Bonus: it has the faint smell of sandalwood, which is so nice. Be ready for it next year, because it’s definitely worth picking up. Read more…
I can’t believe it’s already May! We’re in the second quarter of 2016, the weather has finally started to warm up, and we’re getting ready for the glorious joys that summertime promises to bring. In the meantime, I have a few things that I loved using and enjoying during the month of April. Check them out! Read more…
Another month, another list of monthly favorites. This month I actually have a legitimate amount of things I want to share with you. Buckle up..I’ve got some good stuff to talk about.
Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Oil– I started using a legitimate makeup remover (rather than just 4 or 5 Bioderma soaked cotton pads) to start my nighttime routine, and my skin appreciates it. I wanted to find a cleansing oil that didn’t break the bank, but did a good job and this is it. I take 2-3 pumps of this oil and rub it on my dry face, and rub it in for a little bit. Then, I wet my hands (and sometimes my konjac sponge) and continue to rub my face. Adding water turns the oil into a milky white cleanser. Once I rinse, my face feels so clean that some nights I don’t bother to cleanse again. One swipe of a cotton pad with Bioderma afterwards proves to me how well this stuff works because the pad has virtually no makeup on it. Winner! Read more…
A new month means it’s time for some monthly favorites. You’ll notice my list is super short this month, but everything on here has been an obsession of mine for the month of February. Let’s dive right in, shall we?
Third Love Classic T-shirt Bra– Alright, you all are going to think I’m crazy putting, not just a bra, but a super simple, boring, nude bra in my favorites, but hear me out. This bra is sized so perfectly for me that it is incredibly comfortable, there are no signs of the bra when I’m wearing tighter clothes, and there’s boob overflow happening, which tends to happen in my normal bras. Let me explain. I’m pretty exclusively a Victoria’s Secret girl (the memory foam bras are to die for), but it seems I’m in a weird inbetween size, where a C cup is too tight (resulting in unsightly boob spillage), but a D is too big, leaving me with gaping in my cup. Bras by Third Love can come in half cup sizes, so I’m happily wearing a C 1/2 cup and loving every second of it. I got a boring nude because if I’m going to have a bra that makes the girls look and feel good, I’m going to get it in a shade that is suitable to wear under anything. They’re a step up in price from good old Victoria’s Secret, but if you’re looking for a more customizable bra, Third Love is the place to go. Read more…
2015 was quite a year, both in beauty and in general! There were a ton of awesome products that hit the market. Some made a huge splash, and others..well, not so much. I’ve put together a list of my personal favorites. While many are new products from this past year, there are a handful on here that are not new to beauty, but I finally added to my collection and fell in love with them, so they’re new loves to me personally. Let’s jump right in.
Cover Girl Ready, Set, Gorgeous Foundation: This foundation is full coverage (or mostly full, anyway), oil-free, doesn’t break me out, and is only $7.99 at drugstores and Ulta. There’s nothing about that to not love. While I enjoy trying higher end foundations, when I find something my skin loves for such a killer price, I stick with it.
It Cosmetics Celebration Foundation: This is a powder formula that offers the most full coverage I’ve ever seen in a powder before. While I still need some concealer on my dark circles and breakouts, I fell in love with this because of how quickly I can put it on and be out the door. It’s great for days when I don’t want to do a full face of makeup, but I still want to put some coverage over my troubled skin. Totally in love with this quick fix.
Makeup Forever Full Cover Concealer: I have used this concealer for several years now, and it still remains my favorite. Full coverage, oil free, and a little bit goes a long way, so I don’t even feel guilty about paying a high end price for it. I find it works great on my acne and scarring, however it is not the right kind of concealer for your under eye area. Look for a slightly more hydrating formula, as the oil-free formula of this MUF concealer doesn’t work as well. MUF did recently release a new concealer made just for those of us with under eye issues, which I do plan on trying when I’m in the market for a new under eye concealer.
ELF Contour Palette: This palette is just as good (if not better) than many of the high end contour palettes I’ve tried. There are 4 shades: A bronze, contour, shimmer highlight, and yellow matte highlight. The only shade I haven’t touched is the bronzer shade, but all of the others I use regularly, especially the contour shade. When you can find a contour palette that is just a good as the ones that cost upwards of $40 and this one costs $6…well, you just go with it.
NARS Blush in Deep Throat: When I was in Japan I discovered I could get a NARS blush for a few dollars cheaper than in the US, but they were always sold out of Orgasm (my go to shade), so I had to branch out. It turns out that Deep Throat is the perfect peachy, warm coral shade for my face. There’s less shimmer than in Orgasm, but I actually prefer that for daily wear. This blush is highly pigmented and will last a really long time, so it’s worth the price to me.
TheBalm Mary-Lou Manizer: I don’t know what took me so long to get this lovely piece of highlighting goodness. First of all, this product is huge, so it will last a long time. Secondly, she’s simply stunning. Mary-Lou is a beautiful, slightly golden highlight with multiple purposes. I bought her as a highlighter, but one day decided to swipe her across my eyelids to see what would happen, and she made my eyes look so good with very little effort. I didn’t realize at the time that theBalm actually has “eyeshadow” as one of Mary-Lou’s functions. She instantly brightens any look with very little product. Dab her on your inner corners to brighten the eyes, or swipe her on your cheek bones for a stunning shimmer. LOVE her.
Makeup Forever Artist PaletteVol 1: If I had to choose only one eye product to feature for the entire year, it would be this palette. The 9 nude shades that come with it can create many looks from barely there to intense and smoky. The shadows are buttery and smooth, highly pigmented, and easy to work with. I’m definitely considering picking up another MUF palette in the new year.
Colour Pop Super Shock Shadow in Glitterati: I’m obsessed with this product. Glitterati was the first Colour Pop shadow I tried and I was completely blown away. It’s gold toned shimmer that is clearly meant to sparkle, but I feel it works in a sophisticated way, like glitter for the working woman. I adore things that sparkle, so I was instantly hooked. I find the Colour Pop shadows are best applied with my finger tips, which is fine since I use this as an all over lid color (usually blending something darker in afterwards). For $5, you can’t go wrong.
Colour Pop Creme Gel Color in No Shame: I wanted to branch out this year and started learning how to apply gel liners. Ultimately I opted for a deep plum rather than a black gel liner, and this one did not disappoint. This is a formula that won’t budge, lasts all day, and has stunning color payoff. For only $6 (price point was a big thing for me this year, as you can tell), I’m sure this product rivals many that cost several times as much. If you’re looking for a gel liner but you’re afraid to invest, I highly suggest giving Colour Pop a try.
Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment: I got a mini of this product in a Sephora Favorites kit, and I totally understand why it’s in there. This hydrating and nourishing lip formula keeps my lips feeling amazing for quite some time. I find myself reaching for it throughout the day, either before lip color or just to refresh my dry lips, especially in the winter time. Bonus: It also contains SPF 15 for sun protection. Once I run out of this mini, there is a pretty good chance I will be getting a full size one.
Bite Beauty Luminous Creme Lipstick in Musk: Another brand I “discovered” and fell in love with in 2015 is Bite Beauty. Among their amazing product lineup is this lipstick, which has long lasting color and is super hydrating. I find myself reaching for this lipstick instead of lip balm sometimes, and it definitely gets the job done. Musk is a beautiful dusty rose shade that looks natural, but gives my lips a little something more.
Fleur DeForce’s Lip Gloss in Written in the Stars: I’m sure you know YouTuber Fleur DeForce. This year she released a book and launched a makeup line. I went to one of her signings and she was giving out her makeup to the fans that came. I picked out this gloss because she mentioned it being one of her favorite things in a late summer favorites video. This formula is amazing. SO hydrating, very pigmented, and don’t even get me started on the delicious vanilla scent.. I’m completely obsessed over this product. The price is an added bonus at just under $11 on feelunique.com.
There you have it friends, my best in beauty for 2015. Let me know in the comments below what some of your favorite products of 2015 were.
Grace and Lace Two Fit Knit Cardigan– I heard of this company awhile back, and since they appeared on Shark Tank they’ve gotten even more popular. I finally decided to take a look at their stuff and I was instantly hooked. I ordered this cardigan and once I put it on, I was in love. What is great about this open knit sweater (other than the fact it is quite warm) is you can wear it two ways: as full cover sweater or as a cardigan. This makes it a versatile addition to my fall and winter collection.
Tieks in Patent Nude: Odds are if you’ve stumbled across my blog you have found my post raving about why Tieks are worth their price tag. I recently obtained my second pair in nude patent, and they’re fabulous. The shiny patent leather makes them look so sleek, and the nude shade matches almost anything. Versatile, comfortable, fashionable shoes are definitely a huge win. Read more…
August has come to a close and September is in full swing. I already laid out all of the reasons I love this new month in my September goals and my September watch/wishlist posts, so I’ll spare you the extra reading here.
Today, I have just a few favorites for you. So few, in fact, that I am not filming a video on it this month. Let’s dive right in.
Origins GinZing Refreshing Scrub Cleanser– This scrub is a new favorite simply because of its amazing orangey citrus smell. I like to use this in the morning to wake myself up with a little aroma therapy. It’s a gentle exfoliator, but it gets the job done. Love this!
Rosebud Perfume Co. Rosebud Salve in a Tube– This is a multitasking balm, but I use it specifically for my lips. This tube, which is much more convenient to use than its original tin form, sits on my night stand and is one of the last things I apply before going to bed. I wake up with super soft lips. This balm has also proven very useful in a few extreme dry skin situations I’ve had over the last month or so as well. At $6, I will be purchasing this again. Read more…
