Birchbox Breakdown- July 2015

BrichboxJuly2015I know my Birchbox posts have been on a hiatus ofr quite some time, but I feel compelled to bring them back.  This time around, I’ve decided that rather than just describing the products inside my box, I will try them out first and give a little first impressions type of review along with the breakdown of the box. Not only will this allow me to give better insight into what’s in my box, but it will also force me to use the products rather than just have them sit there and accumulate.  Imagine that..

So, without further adieu, here’s my July Birchbox. Read more

Birchbox | October 2014

Halloween Treats Welcome Box

Bee Kind Body Lotion

This lotion is good for your skin and for the enviornment.  It’s made with natural ingredients like organic chamomile and honey and made without a bunch of the bad things like parabens.  The formula absorbs quickly, doesn’t leave the skin greasy, and has an invigorating lemon verbena scent that perks up the senses.  Another great thing: a portion of all Bee Kind purchases go to helping the honeybee population.  Everybody wins!

Full Size: 8 oz @ $15.00

Sample Size: 1 oz

Sample Value: $1.88

Harvey Prince Petaly Noir

I’m very picky about fragrance and really don’t like when my Birchbox has perfume samples in it, however this Harvey Prince fragrance is an exception to that rule.  With top notes of orchid, jasmine, and lily of the valley followed up with notes of amber, sandalwood, and patchouli, this fragrance has my name written all over it.  It doesn’t come off as being TOO floral, but is just enough.  Definitely perfect for fall.

Full Size: 50 ml @ $55.00

Sample Size: 1.2 ml

Sample Value: $1.32

Lord & Berry Paillettes Eye Pencil

What makes a basic black eyeliner a little more holiday party friendly? Add some glitter, of course!  Lord & Berry took their smudge proof, stay all day black eye pencil and spiked it with some silver glitter for an instant (but subtle) bling effect.  Perfection for party time.

Full Size: $18.00

Sample Size: My guess is about 1/4 of full size.

Sample Value: $4.50

Dr. Brandt Pores No More Vacuum Cleaner

It’s a happy day when Dr. Brandt shows up in my Birchbox.  This mask is a powerful little blackhead eliminator.  Silicone Dioxide is a mineral powder that is natural and draws sebum, dirt, and other grossness out of the pores.  Salicylic and glycolic acids also play a part in this blackhead buster.  A very popular product from an incredibly well-loved brand.

Full Size: 1 oz @ $45.00

Sample Size: 0.25 oz

Sample Value: $11.25

Model Co. Party Proof Matte Lipstick

This was my Birchbox sample pick, and I am sure glad this is what I picked.  The shade Kitty is an amazing neutral shade that is perfect for the “my lips, but better” look.  This long wear formula does an amazing job at delivering a great color payout as well as some strong hydration to the lips.  I don’t reach for my lip balm when I’m wearing this lipstick because it does an amazing job all on its own.  I am so glad I got to try this and would not be surprised if I purchased it again in the future.

Full Size: set of 3 lipsticks of .13 oz each @ $24.00

Sample Size: One lipstick

Sample Value: $8.00

Total Box Value: $26.95

I am quite pleased with this month’s Birchbox!  If you’re interested in getting a subscription of your own head over to the Birchbox site and sign up. It’s only $10 a month and is full of amazing new discoveries and benefits that are perfect for any beauty addict.  Christmas is coming.  Hint Hint 🙂

Birchbox: September 2014

This month’s Birchbox was called “fresh paint” and they certainly meant it.  To celebrate the 4th anniversary of this great company, the boxes came out in fun and exciting colors rather than just plain brown.  The box itself was enough to get me excited, but now lets dig in to what was underneath that brightly colored exterior.

Macadamia Professional Healing Oil Spray

I was super excited to see that this was one of the options for picking a sample this month.*  I have used several products my this brand and have loved every single one of them.  Thanks to the fatty nature of the macadamia nut, the oil is great for moisturizing and and replenishing all hair types.  This spray provides a light, even application that adds softness and shine while being weightless. I am really looking forward to giving this product a try.  If my love for the other items I’ve tried in this brand is any indication of how I’ll feel about this, I’m sure it will be a new favorite.

Full Size: 2.0 fl oz @ $14.50

Sample Size: 2.0 fl oz (full size!)

Sample Value: $14.50

Tocca Crema de Mano Luxe

Tocca is an Italian fragrance house and this rich hand cream is one of their amazing smelling products.  This cream contains heavy doses of avocado and coconut oils along with some chamomile extract making it an incredibly rich and hydrating cream.  A little bit goes a long way here.  My hands are silky smooth and smell so fresh.  I received the scent “Bianca” which is green tea and lemon (SO nice), but you can also get “Cleopatra” (grapefruit and cucumber), “Stella” (blood orange), “Giulietta” (pink tulip and green apple), and Florence (bergamot and gardenia).  All sound incredibly luxurious, and the cream leaves the skin feeling as such.

Full SIze: 4 fl oz @ $20.00

Sample Size: 1 fl oz

Sample Value: $5.00

Avène Cleanance Soap-free Gel Cleanser

Plain old soap can be harsh on the skin.  Enter this soap-free cleanser to keep things clean and gentle.  This is a pH balanced formula made from thermal springs that keep skin calm and soft while removing all of the grime from the face.  It specifically says it’s great for oily and acne prone skin which is 100% me, so I am really excited to use this.  I gave it a few tries already and I will admit that my skin feels great.  My skin is soft and feels quite clean.  I use this with my Foreo Luna Mini and get a great lather for an awesome feeling clean.

Full Size: 200ml @ $20.00

Sample Size: 50ml

Sample Value: $5.00

Temptu S/B Highlighter

Temptu is an airbrush makeup brand that I’ve heard of but never gotten to try.  This little sample of highlighter is sure to go a long way, as all you need is a drop or two.  This silicone based formula won’t clog pores and stays in place.  I am a little overwhelmed with how strong the champagne coloring seems to be, but my hope is that I can figure out how to use this without looking incredibly shiny.

Full Size: 1 fl oz @ $27.50

Sample Size: 0.1 fl oz

Sample Value: $2.75

Harvey Prince Hello

This is supposedly a warm weather scent, so I’m thinking it should have showed up a few months ago, but hey..  This perfume has notes of Meyer lemon, mandarin, grapefruit, forsythia, and plumeria making it a light and floral summer scent.  While it isn’t my favorite, I will admit it is a nice energy boosting scent.

Full Size: 50 ml @ $55.00

Sample Size 1.5 ml

Sample Value: $1.65

ChapStick Dual-Ended Hydration Lock Moisturize and Renew

I got a Birchbox find this month and it is by a brand I know and love.  This dual-ended chapstick has slightly different formulas on either end.  The moisturize side has antioxidants and CoQ10 and vitamin E while the “renew” side has plant butters (shea and mango) so they hydrate well, but a little differently.  As a ChapStick hoarder, I definitely approve of finding this in my Birchbox.

Value: $2.99

Total Box Value: $31.89

Birchbox: July 2014

July Birchbox 2014

This month’s Birchbox is  a collaboration with Women’s Health magazine.  I’ve been a reader of Women’s Health for years, so it is nice to see companies that I love working together.  Let’s have a look to see what was in store for my box this month.

July Birchbox 4

Klorane Gentle Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoos are all the rage right now.  Everyone (myself included) is trying to work the “not washing your hair daily” thing into their routines, but for many, it is difficult.  With oily scalps and sweaty workouts it is hard to keep hair looking (and smelling) clean.  This is where the dry shampoo comes in.  I’ve been trying various kinds, primarily though my Birchbox and Ipsy subscriptions, and they’ve proven to be very helpful.

Klorane’s shampoo has such a reputation that it won Allure’s Best of Beauty award.  This dry shampoo acts as a volumizer, cleanser, and degreaser.  It’s natural formula contains oat milk to help soften hair, and it leaves minimal residue behind.  I can’t wait to give this a try.  It’s the perfect travel size for my vacation coming up!

Full Size: 3.2 oz @ $19.50

Sample Size: 1.06 oz

Sample Value: $6.46

July Birchbox 2

Cynthia Rowley Beauty Silver Eyeliner

Cynthia Rowley Beauty is exclusive to Birchbox.  This eyeliner has a creamy smooth consistency that glides on easily and the color is shockingly bright.  The sliver just glimmers.  You can choose to smudge it out within 30 seconds or so of application for a more subtle, all over sparkly look, or you can leave it in its bold line.  Whichever way you choose, it’s smudge proof after drying so the bright look can last all day.

Full Size: 0.04 oz @ $16.00

Sample Size: 0.03 oz

Sample Value: $12.00

July Birchbox 6

Naobay Body Radiance Lotion

This natural and organic body lotion contains super moisturizing ingredients like olive oil. avocado oil, and shea butter to deliver some major moisture to the skin.  The consistency is like a thin body butter.  It’s liquid coming out of the tube, but on the skin there is definitely some weight to it.  It has a clean, citrus smell to it, making it perfect for summer hydration.

Full Size: 250 ml @ $24.00

Sample Size: 30 ml

Sample Value: $2.88

July Birchbox 1

Supergoop Advanced SPF Anti-Aging Eye Cream

This is the third or fourth time I’ve gotten Supergoop in my box.  Apparently Birchbox is trying to push this brand quite a bit, which makes sense I guess with summer being here and SPF being kind of a big deal.  This hydrating cream reduces the look of dark circles and puffiness and gives a visible brightness to the under eye area, while SPF 37 helps protect that delicate skin from the sun.  I currently have this on, and I actually am really loving the way it feels.  My skin is hydrated and there is a bit of a difference in the dark circles.  I’m just bummed that this sample is so tiny.

Full Size: 0.5 fl oz (15 ml) @ $45.00

Sample Size: 2 ml

Sample Value: $6.00

100% Pure Gingerade Shower Gel

These little pouches were the lifestyle extra in this month’s Birchbox.  This natural shower gel has herbs, green tea and seaweed in it to hydrate and cleanse your body while the scent of ginger wakes you up.  Perfect for the morning shower.

Full Size: 390 ml @ $15.00

Sample Size: 2, 2ml packets

Sample Value: $0.15

July Birchbox 3

Women’s Health Magazine Membership and Giveaway

A cool bonus in this box: Birchbox gave all of its subscribers a free 1 year subscription to Women’s Health Magazine.  (a $9.99 value).  All we have to do is fill out the little card and send it in.  Personally, I already have a subscription, so they allow you to submit the card for a refund of the $10 as a secondary option, which is awesome.

Also included was this little booklet for the Birchbox and Women’s Health Power Up Challenge, which contains 12 tips on how to be healthier, more energized, and approach things a little differently.   If you take photos of yourself conquering these challenges and post them with #PowerUpChallenge @Birchbox and #Giveaway, you get entered into a drawing to win a bunch of the July Birchbox picks as well as a trip to NYC for a beauty and fitness makeover.  I will definitely be participating.

Birchbox: June 2014

LAQA & Co Sheer Lip Lube Pencil

At first glance I saw this and cringed at the color, thinking it would definitely not be for me.  Turns out I love it.  This more purple shade, which I never would have imagined myself liking, is fun and not nearly as overwhelming as I anticipated.  It’s a sheer and buildable color, making it ideal for the bold skeptics like me.  The formula of the pencil is great.  It’s made with shea butter and has long lasting, comfortable wear that also fills in those unsightly lines.  There’s also a hint of mint in here making it feel cooling when applied.  LAQUA & Co. and Birchbox definitely surprised me on this one, and I’m very pleased.

Full Size: 0.07 oz @ $18.00

Sample Size: 0.07 oz (full size!)

Sample Value: $18.00

English Laundry Signature for Her

A beautiful scent by Christopher Wicks with notes of jasmine, white chocolate, and quince that later blend with a little bit of rose and orris root giving it a floral smell with a touch of woodsy-ness to it.  It’s lovely.

Full Size: 1.7 oz @ $70.00

Sample Size: 0.05 oz

Sample Value: $2.06

Costal Scents Revealed 2 Palette

This palette seems to be a mix of both matte and shimmery shades that all fall along the natural tones leaning toward rosy ones.  The color combination I got in my Birchbox is perfect for summer with its shimmery gold and taupe shades that help me get a beachy, natural look with a hint of shimmer.  The dark color is matte which makes a nice contrast.

Full Size: 20 colors (30g) and 3 brushes for $34.00

Sample Size: 0.08g

Sample Value: $0.10 (I did the math twice..correct me if I’m wrong. lol)

Caudalie Polyphenol C15 Anti-Wrinkle Defense Serum

According to the Birchbox site (because they will say it better than I can): “Polyphenol and vitamin C ward off pollutants and other harmful environmental factors that age your skin while they stimulate cellular turnover for a fresher complexion. At the same time, hyaluronic acid and olive squalane lock in moisture and plump skin to correct existing fine lines and wrinkles. The formula is hypoallergenic, nonphotosensitizing, and noncomedogenic.”

Full Size: 1 fl oz @ $62.00

Sample Size: 0.06 fl oz

Sample Value: $3.72

Jergens BB Body Perfecting Skin Cream

BB cream for the body??  Yes! This body lotion claims to have 5 visible results in 5 days: hydrates, evens, illuminates, firms, and corrects.  While it goes on sheer, it does say to let it dry a few minutes before getting dressed.  I haven’t seen any major improvements, but my skin feels soft and smooth.  The shades are self adjusting so you buy for light, medium or dark skin tones.  Who knows, maybe there will actually be firming and correcting results?  Birchbox also included a $2.00 off coupon so we could get a full size at a lower price.

Full Size: 7.5 fl oz @ $12.99

Sample Size: 1 fl oz

Sample Value: $1.73

Total Box Value: $25.61

Not bad at all this month!  Thanks Birchbox for an awesome June box 🙂

Birchbox: May 2014

Smarty Pants Adult Gummy Vitamin

This is a product I have now sampled several times (Including getting 3 packets of it in this month’s Bulu Box..).  Apparently it’s kind of a big deal.  Basically, these are gummy vitamins for adults.  This multi-vitamin has all of the nutrients you need packed into one serving of 6 gummy candies.  Added bonus in this particular product is there is a 6g punch of fiber, which is excellent to aid in digestion and weight management.  Now, if they would throw a dose of energizing caffeine into this guy (and maybe made the price not nearly $50 a month..), I’d be much more willing to switch from my One-A-Day Weight management vitamin.  Just a thought, Smarty Pants people..

This was a lifestyle extra in my Birchbox.

Full Size: 30 Day Supply @ $47.95

Sample Size: 1/3 day Supply

Sample Value: $0.53

Gilchrist & Soames Spa Therapy Body Lotion

I got a sample of another lotion from this brand a few months ago, and while I don’t think they’re anything to call home about, the quality of these lotions are quite nice. This one does have a very spa-like feel to it. It’s slightly scented with citrus notes and aqua leaf, making it smell just like a spa, and the sea fennel is very soothing to skin.  The consistency is on the runnier side, which makes it nice for summer when I don’t necessarily like to use thick body butters all the time.  Don’t let the thinness fool you though, as it leaves a hefty amount of hydration behind.

Full Size: 8 oz @ $15.00

Sample Size: 1.35 oz

Sample Value: $2.53

ElevenSkin Perfection Eye Creme + Concealer

I was surprised to discover that Birchbox sent a full size product this month.  This eye creme is keeping with the theme of sea based ingredients by containing things like “laminaria digitata seaweed extract, algisium-C algae extract, and other natural sea botanicals” to help moisturize while reducing the look of fine lines and wrinkles.  Because of the tint in this product, it also offers a little bit of dark circle management while treating your under eye area.  While the coverage isn’t as high as some other concealers, I love the idea of coverage within a treatment.

Full Size: 0.5 oz @ $30

Sample Size: Full Size

Sample Value: $30

Color Club Art Duo Pens

It’s your pretty basic nail art pen but with multiple application options.  If you want to create dots or need a hard application tip, just squeeze the product through the pen-like cap and dot away.  For a paint brush application you can unscrew the cap and pull out a thin brush to create lines or whatever else your heart desires.  Personally, I am not all that good at the nail art doodles and such, but at least now I can play around with it.

Full Size: Set of 3 colors @ $25.00

Sample Size: 1 Pen

Sample Value: $6.33

PIXI Beauty Shea Butter Lip Balm

Pixi is a brand I’ve been seeing around more lately.  This is a pretty standard lip product that has a sheer wash of color (which is nice because it gives the pop of pink without being too strong) and a serious dose of hydration.  I put it on about 30 minutes ago and my lips still feel like I just applied this balm.  I love this, as I am a lip balm addict.

Full Size: 4 g @ $8.00

Sample Size: Full Size

Sample Value: $8.00

Total Box Value: $47.39
This month Birchbox definitely delivered when it comes to getting your money’s worth.  I got almost $50 worth of product for my $10 monthly payment.  Interested in getting your own months beauty treat?  Head over to the Birchbox website and sign up for $10  a month.

Birchbox: March 2014

Gilchrist & Soames London Collection Body Lotion

My first thought when seeing (and touching and smelling) this lotion is that it belongs in a really fancy 5 star hotel, which makes sense since this brand does just that.  It can be found in exclusive hotels and spas all over the world.  The consistency is a tad thicker than regular lotion, but not quite a body cream.  With ingredients like red tea, milk thistle, and grape seed for antioxidants and natural hydration from glycerin and honey, this lotion seems like it will leave me feeling a little bit luxe, without an outrageous price tag.  Added bonus: this company is eco friendly and strives to keep its carbon footprint small.

Full Size: 8 oz @ $16.00

Sample Size: 1.5 oz

Sample Value: $3.00

Curly Hair Solutions Curl Keeper

This serum is geared toward curly/wavy hair types.  My hair is a “kind of wavy if you let it air dry but mostly straight” type, so we’ll see if this product does anything special for me.  Curl Keeper is a water based so there is no sticky residue, and it dries soft so curls and waves don’t have that crunchy, “i just got loaded down with a bunch of styling products so I’d stay in control” type look and feel.  It also says that Curl Keeper’s frizz taming properties with restart with the addition of a little bit of water to dry hair.  That means 2nd day hair will be just as soft and in control as day 1.

Full Price: 8 oz @ $17.50

Sample Size: 1 oz

Sample Value: $2.19

theBalm Cosmetics “How ‘Bout Them Apples?”

The sample of this palette contained one of the 6 shades offered of this lip and cheek creme.  The product has a slightly wet feel which makes it really easy to blend, and it’s long wearing so there should be little need to reapply.  Apply this to the apples of your cheeks (get it? Like the name of the palette? ha..ha..) You can use a lip brush for a precise application or simply use your finger to get a general flush.  The different shades in the palette offer shades to fit whatever mood you’re in.  The colors included are Pie, Carmel, Cider, Cobbler, Crisp, and Candy.  Sound delicious

Full Size: 6 different colors in 1 palette @ $32.00

Sample size: a sampling of one shade (I’m going with 1/2 of a full size color)

Sample Value: $2.67

Jurlique Herbal Recovery Night Cream

Multitasking at its best, this night cream strives to get a few jobs done for you while catching your zzz’s.  The herbal blend of 8 different herbs and flowers are full of antioxidants and blended with other botanicals to keep skin nourished and looking its best.  There are also ingredients that are supposed to reduce skin discoloration, increase oxygen levels, and reduce the look of dull, dry skin (well, since it’s a moisturizer I’d hope that last one was true..).  This cream also works to fight off fine lines and wrinkles while you sleep.  I wish I was this good at multitasking..  The cream has a slightly thinner consistency than I would have expected, which is fine as it’s absorption happens really quickly, and there is s slightly floral perfumey smell to it.  Almost too floral for my taste, but my skin feels really nice after application.

Full Size: 1.6 oz @ $51.00

Sample Size: 0.17 oz

Sample Value: $5.41

Jurlique Herbal Recovery Eye Cream

This is from the same line as the night cream I just mentioned and therefore the ingredients and purpose is quite similar.  The herbal blend in the eye cream strives to refresh and rejuvenate, soothe, reduce puffiness and brighten up your dark circles.

Full Size: 0.5 oz @ $40.00

Sample Size: 0.07 oz

Sample Value: $5.60

Ghirardelli Intense Dark Cherry Tango

I love Birchbox extras like this.  I am already a huge fan of the Ghirardelli brand, and this piece of chocolate is no exception.  The cherry bits in this dark chocolate just take it to the next level of awesome for me.  If I see this in the grocery store it will be going in my cart.  Absolutely delightful…and I don’t feel too guilty about it either because of the dark chocolate 😉

Full Size: 1 bag with about 16 pieces @ $4.25

Sample Size: 1 piece

Sample Value: $0.27

Total Box Value: $19.14

Birchbox February 2014

This box was curated by a the Birchbox team and US Weekly to bring us a special edition box in honor of awards season.

Agave Healing Oil Treatment

This is another hair oil that I’ve yet to hear of.  Made from Mexico’s Blue Agave (which is also a source for tequila), this oil has healing properties that will help build hair’s resiliency as it boosts color and shine.  Using hair oil to hydrate and protect has been the latest thing in hair care.  The agave oil is put in damp hair and you can let it air dry or blow dry your hair for a sleeker look.  I look forward to giving this a try, as I love when my hair is soft and in control.

Full Size: 2 oz for $24.00

Sample Size: 0.1 oz

Sample Value: $1.20

OPI Sheer Tints

I’m a nail polish junkie, and this is something totally new to me.  The OPI sheer tints are a new line of top coats that add shine and a wash of color to your base nail color.  They come in several colors (red, pink, teal, purple) and I was sent “I Can Teal You Like Me.”  It’s an interesting concept that I’m not entirely sure how to work with.  I imagine this works great being washed over a white nail polish, but you can also get creative using reds to pinks to mix it with to create a purple, or make interesting ombre patterns by layering the tints.  I’m definitely looking forward to trying this, although I am skeptical as to how much I’ll like it.

Full Size: 0.5 fl oz at $9.00

Sample Size: 0.125 fl oz

Sample Value: $2.25

Caudalie Instant Foaming Cleanser

I was really excited to see this in my Birchbox.  Several months ago I got a cleansing water from Caudalie in my Birchbox and I loved it so much I ended up purchasing a full size version of it.  I have high hopes for this faming cleanser.  This face wash detoxifies with grape extracts and chamomile.  Foaming formulas tend to be a bit gentler, and this formula is meant to be both deep cleaning as well as gentle on the skin which is perfect for troubled combination skin like mine.  I would not be at all surprised if I find another love in this Caudalie product.

Full Size: 5 fl oz @ $28.00

Sample Size: 1.69 fl oz

Sample Value: $9.46

DDF Ultra-Lite Oil-Free Moisturizing Dew

DDF is another brand that I have used (very infrequently because of price) and have been very pleased with.   This is an oil-free hydrating moisturizer that helps solve the problem that many with oily skin face (myself included) which is over mattifying the skin. This formula is light and quickly absorbed into the skin, which is great because you can get to work on the rest of your routine right away.  The dew has hydrating vitamins A, E, and C, grape seed extract (a popular thing this month) and aloe vera.  I’ve tried this once last night and I loved it!  Hopefully my opinion will stay positive.

Full Size: 1.7oz @ $42.00

Sample Size: 1 fl oz

Sample Value: $24.70

Harney & Sons Fine Teas

Getting tea samples is always fun.  I got two tea packets my Harney & Sons Teas: one in Mint Verbena and White Vanilla Grapefruit.  Both of these sound deliciously intriguing.  I think I’ll try these out now 🙂

Full Size: 20 Sachets @ $9.60

Birchbox November 2013

Birchbox NOV

November’s Birchbox has some things that make me think of rest and rejuvenation, and since it’s my birthday month, a little extra R&R is exactly what the doctor ordered.  Along with the products the Birchbox contained a holiday gift guide for all of the people on your list from beauty fan to hostess to the man in your life.  It’s time to start thinking about the holidays again!

But for now: This month’s box!

Tiossan Body Cream

This body cream is a moisturizing blend of organic black seed oil, organic aloe vera, and organic shea butter which is a great recipe for happy, smooth skin.  What I like about this sample is it’s a strong hydrator while still being a lighter cream.  Sometimes creams can be really thick, but this one wears more like a light lotion while still doing the work of a heavier cream.

Full Size: 8oz/ 237 ml @ $38

Sample Size: .25oz/ 7.4 ml

Sample Value: $1.18

Eyeko Mascara

This is a paraben-free formula that claims to last for a long time with it’s water-resistant wear.  The brush allows for an easy, natural curl giving nice volume and dark color to your lashes.  The packaging is a bit different, too.

Full Size: 0.29 oz @ $24.00

Sample Size: 0.13 oz

Sample Value: $10.80

Oct BB 3

Laura Mercier Lip Glacé

I’ve gotten one of these in my Birchbox before and I loved it.  These lip glosses really deliver a beautiful color and shine while keeping lips moisturized (but not sticky!).  Mine is in the shade “opal”.

Full Size: 4.5g @ $24.00

Sample Size: 2.8g

Sample Value: $14.88

Vasanti Brighten Up! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator

Yeah, that title is a bit of a mouthful.  I’m excited to offer my face a bit of rejuvenation.  The enzymes in this scrub actually break the bonds that hold dead skin cells together while the micro crystals take action on the tired skin cells, making this a dual action exfoliant.

Full Size: 4.23 oz / 120g @ $34.00

Sample Size: 20g

Sample Value: $5.67

Ahmad Teas

Every so often Birchbox throws in some fun little extras for us to try, and this month we got some tea.  As a tea drinker, I’m always up for trying different brands and types of tea, so despite the value of this being around 50 cents, I know I will get 3 new tea time experiences out of it.  Thanks for the extras!

Full Size: 40 teabags @ $7.00

Sample Size: 3 tea bags

Birchbox October 2013

Klorane Shampoo

This is a nourishing shampoo for drier hair types.  Desert dates are apparently a fruit that is really good at reviving brittle, dry, or damaged hair.  They take these dates from Africa and de-pulp and ground them to get all of the moisturizing nutrients out of there.

I have been using it for a few days and it does make the hair feel nice without weighing it down.  I’ve been having lazy hair days so I don’t know what it looks like blow dried, but my hair feels clean and soft and it doesn’t get all tangled when I leave it up in my damp messy bun (my look of the weekend).

Full Size: 6.76 fl oz @ $13.00

Sample Size: 0.8fl oz

Liz Earle Cleanser

This is a product that has a cult following and is currently a Birchbox exclusive.  The cleanser contains cocoa butter as well as eucalyptus and rosemary, which are great natural astringents. You rub this cream on your dry skin and then take it off with the lot muslin cloth (see below) for a deep, relaxing clean.  I do love the smell of this cleanser, as the ingredients make it smell very clean and fresh.  This definitely doesn’t strip me of any natural moisture, but I’m not left feeling greasy either.  It’s supposedly a great makeup remover, and while I don’t doubt it, I’ve been using this in the shower in the mornings, so I don’t exactly know.  Perhaps this is worth a splurge sometimes.

Liz Earle Muslin Cloth

My Birchbox came with one of the cloths that are supposed to be used with the above cleanser.  It reminds me of the thinnest of thin baby washcloths.  After applying the cleanser to dry skin you are supposed to wet the cloth with hot water and use it to gently remove the cleanser. I do a quick once over, then flip the cloth to the other side and move it in circular motions all over my face to get the gentle exfoliation benefits of the muslin.  I will admit, no dry skin patches the last few days and no feeling like I was too harsh on my skin.

POP Beauty Aqua Lacquer

I love when they put full size products in our boxes!  This month I got a “Flowering Fuchsia” Aqua Lacquer.  It’s a beautiful sheer hot pink color (a few months late for such a perfect summer shade, but that’s alright) that leaves the lips feeling glossy and moisturized.  The feeling lasts for quite some time as well, so that makes reapplication less necessary.  Speaking of application: there’s an interesting rubber tip applicator instead of the typical sponge tip applicator.  It was fun to see something a little different. The best part about this lipgloss beauty: no goopy sticky after feeling.  It feels smooth and clean and totally kissable.

Birchbox Extra: Chapstick Hydration Lock

Added Bonus!  Sometimes Birchbox finds something that isn’t high end, but still something worth making sure their clients discover.  This month we discovered a new edition to the Chapstick family.  This balm promises a full 8 hours of moisture which lessons the need to reapply (because lets me honest, many of us are lip balm hoarders who apply hourly..I know I am) and has vitamin E and CoQ10 ( an antioxidant that protects from free radicals) to make this a pretty fabulous find indeed.  It also tastes good with it’s vanilla creme flavoring.  They also gave members a $1 off coupon good for another one at the drugstore.

Price: $2.99

Total value of this month’s box: $28.04 for a $10 box
