May is here and I am pretty pumped about it. This month the theme of my goals this month is “level up,” which means I really want to hit the ground running and make some serious progress towards my big picture goals. Last month’s theme of “refresh and renew was nice and necessary, but now it’s time to shake off this quarantine (even though we’re still in it) and really take big steps forward in achieving my goals.
Monthly Action Items
Single tasks that I need to accomplish only once this month.
Bust out of my current weight decade
I have been here for far too long, and it is time to see a new middle number in my weight. Now, I am well aware that this actual goal is centered around something I can’t control (the number on the scale) but the thing I am working on is my effort towards getting there. If I achieve nothing else this month but I see a new decade on that scale, the month will be deemed a success.
Get this blog up and running again
In case you haven’t noticed, I’ve actually posted a few things on here as of late! My goal is to take the deep dive into resurrecting this poor little blog of mine.
Stick to my content schedule
I have a super fun content planner and in the said planner, I put up the blank slate for a rather ambitious content posting schedule this month. My goal is to stick to it. Plain and (not so) simple.
Host my first book club meeting
In case you haven’t heard: I started a book club!! All the details can be found in the video below.
Make progress on my Broadway wall
I have this little nook in our home where my piano, music, and all musical memorabilia live, and we want to cover the wall with framed posters from Broadway shows. The problem is we only have 3 or 4 of them, so I need to obtain some more. The design my husband has laid out will give us room for 15 posters, which is a lot, so as long as I make progress, this goal is achieved. It’s going to take a lot longer to complete it.
I always have to keep up with my business finances. This will be a monthly action item from now until my business doesn’t exist anymore.
Enneagram date night
Since we still have to do date nights at home, I’ve decided I want to do a date night where we get to know a lot more about one another. I’m going to make my husband take the enneagram test so we can once and for all compare our numbers, personalities, and see if we can develop a little more understanding of one another.
Celebrate the blog turning 7
Fun fact: May 30th is this website’s 7th birthday!! How I’m going to celebrate I have no idea, but I’m pretty sure bringing this thing back to life is a good start.
Read 2 non-fiction books
I am keeping up with my ambitious reading goal and I want to read two more non-fiction books. The first one will be a re-read of “Everything is Figureoutable” by Marie Forleo since it is the May book choice for book club, but I’m unsure what my second one will be.
Read Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Askaban
Continuing my journey through the Harry Potter series, book 3 is my mission for this month.
Weekly Action Items
Take a sabbath day of rest
Every week I want to take a day where I 100% don’t worry about anything relating to work. God rested, so I can too.
Liift 4 Workouts
I started Liift 4 on the Beachbody app and I LOVE it. These workouts combine weight training and cardio intervals for maximum (hopefully) results. This is an 8-week program with 4 workouts every week. My goal is to stick to the schedule and see it through to the end.
I’ve tried to achieve this goal several times and I just haven’t been able to get into it because quite frankly, my ability focus is terrible. With the help of timers and a bit of self-discipline 🤞🏻, this time I’m going to do it, and it’s going to be a key player in achieving some of my other goals this month.
This goal served me well last month, so I will be repeating it from now until life gets back to normal. Reaching for 70,000 steps a week rather than 10,000 steps a day still results in an average of 10k per day but takes into account that some days I will be significantly more active than others depending on what’s on the to-do list that day. Achieving this goal makes me feel good about my movement without feeling the pressure to get it perfect every day.
Every week of every month. No exceptions.
I have a cleaning checklist that I do daily, and adding all of the tasks together equals a week that includes deep cleaning projects. I earn this checkmark for the week when all deep cleaning activities (bathrooms, dusting, vacuuming, etc) are done for the week.
Since quarantine started I’ve let meal planning slip a bit because my husband is always home and there is less of a day by day schedule to plan around, but I want to get it back. Meal planning often results in me having a solid idea of what I’m eating for the day and allows me to stay on track. Just because we’re in quarantine doesn’t mean I can’t know exactly what I am eating and cooking for the week.
Scheduled guilt-free “me time”
Something that is hard for me, especially when I am in an ambitious “level up” mode is to take some time to do whatever the heck I want without feeling guilty about it. I always feel like I need to be doing something to get things done, but I will always end up losing focus and wasting time on a game or social media or something. Then I end up feeling guilty about it because I was legitimately wasting time. This month I am going to try to actually schedule in some activities that allow me to poke at my phone or watch an episode of TV mid-day or whatever it is I want to do. I will schedule it, time it, and when the time is up it’s back to business. Zero guilt!
Daily Action Items
These are things I will strive to accomplish each and every day.
Phone-free for 90 minutes
Do you even realize how many times a day you pick up your phone whenever there’s a 5-second lull in whatever you’re doing? I have realized this for a while, but I find I am so controlled by my phone that it’s where the entirety of my time-wasting comes from. I pick it up to check the time and I magically end up scrolling Instagram for 20 minutes without a single purpose to the scrolling. In an effort to change that, I will be setting specific timers dedicated to my phone being in another room and completely ignored for 90 minutes a day. This could be 90 minutes all at once, 2 45-minute blocks, or 30-minute blocks, but there will be phone-free time every single day. Imagine all I can get done in 90 minutes without my phone!
Stay in my Bites (iTrackBites)/Points budget
Every day that passes where I still have at least one weekly Bite left after accurately tracking all the things is a day of success on the plan. Easy peasy.
She Reads Truth
I have several She Reads Truth studies that I own and haven’t been using as I should, and I also decided to subscribe to their monthly box to encourage me to dive into God’s Word daily. I want to make sure I actively get into a She Reads Truth study every day.
I want to publish something to some channel every single day this month. Even on my Sabbath rest day I can either hop on Instagram to share an image of my day, or if I’m really on the ball, I’ll have some content already scheduled to go live ahead of time. Whether its a Youtube video, blog post, or simply a Facebook or Instagram post, I want to see content go live on one of my platforms every day.
I have 2 books to finish up from last month and at least 3 new ones to read this month, which means I need to dedicate some serious time to read every day if I’m going to get it all done.
Alright, so there are my lofty goals for the month of May. It’s a lot. It’s a little scary, but it’s also super motivating for me to have such high expectations of myself. I think the fact the sun is shining more regularly and spring has finally sprung here in Minnesota is giving me a hefty dose of inspiration that has been seriously lacking since the temperatures dropped back in November. I’m excited to see where this goes and how many checks I earn by the end of the month.
What are your goals this month?
