Friday 5

Okay, whoever angered Elsa seriously needs to go and apologize! As I sit at my desk at 9 am typing out this week’s Friday 5 because I didn’t have time to do it yesterday (that’s just the kind of week I’m having) it’s currently -6˚ outside! What’s even better? According to the Weather Channel, it feels like -26˚🥶 I mean, at what point exactly is cold just freaking freezing? Does the body even know the difference between -6 and -26? Probably not.  Anyway, whoever Elsa is mad at had better set things straight because this is ridiculous. Anyway, let’s move on to the Friday 5.

 #1. Save Yourself From The MOST Stuff

If you haven’t seen them already, Oreo put out a new cookie called “The MOST Stuff,” which (as the name implies) contains Oreos with the most cream filling they’ve ever offered. This is a very slippery slope for Oreo cream lovers such as myself. Clocking in at 110 calories and 11g sugar per cookie (3pp/5pp) this is basically a sugar addict’s dream and worst nightmare all wrapped up in one delicious little package. The last 2 days PMS hit me really hard and for me PMS= craving all the sugar. Learn from my mistakes. If you have any sort of self-control issues around sugar, do not (I repeat: do NOT) buy these cookies!!  That being said, if you’re an Oreo cream lover like me, these are awesome…

 #2. TV Finds

Let’s chat television for just a minute. I’m always looking for new things to watch because I wind down at the end of the day with an episode or two of something. I prefer something light and comedic. On Netflix, the new season of Grace & Frankie came out starring Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. It’s one of my favorite shows on Netflix. You’ll laugh, you’ll fall in love with these characters, and you’ll laugh some more. Even my grandfather thinks this show is hilarious. 

Several people recommended The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel to me, so I decided to give that a try this week. I’m only a few episodes in, but I can already tell I’m going to enjoy it. This show takes place in 1958, so it’s a mix of 1950’s housewife, comedy, drama, and everything in between. I don’t want to give anything away, but if you’re looking for something new to watch, this could be your new show. It’s available on Amazon Prime Video. 

Last TV thing: This Sunday at 7pm Central time Fox will be airing RENT live. I love this musical, and while I’m a little skeptical of seeing a different cast perform (I love the original cast and even more than that, the cast from the 2005 movie, which was the original cast with 2 key roles swapped out) this amazing show, I am glad it’s the next one to hit the live on air musical trend that is getting other people to watch musical theater in a new way. I’ll be watching. Will you?

#3. Books & Music

One of my favorite musicals came out with a revival album (that I didn’t even know was in the works) today. Songs For A New World by Jason Robert Brown is full of amazing songs, each with its own compelling story. One of the first songs I ever worked on in voice lessons is from this show, and it would be a dream to be in a production of this show someday. A few days ago I saw an article about it that contained the ability to listen to the entire new album for free! Here’s that article so you can listen too.

I also finished a book this week. 1 down and one to go to reach this month’s goal. I listened to Kind is the New Classy by Candace Cameron Bure (aka DJ Tanner/Fuller from Full/Fuller House). I have been really enjoying all of her books because they’re all so faith driven. I feel like reading her works is part Bible study, part learning about Candance, and part generalized awesome advice. Kind is the New Classy is filled with great content about kindness and everything related to it. It’s definitely a book worth picking up.

 #4. Cold Hands, Warm Heart

As I’m sitting here trying to come up with my 5 things, I’m literally losing the feeling in my fingers becuase they’re so cold. Thanks “feels like -26˚” weather… Because of my nerve disorder, this is not an uncommon occurrence, but I’m not feeling optimistic about my ability to thaw out my fingers if I’m frozen already. I recently ordered several pairs of fingerless gloves from Amazon that have become a staple in my wardrobe in an effort to help keep my hands warm and functioning, but some days even those aren’t enough. What is your solution for constantly cold hands?

    Hi! Thanks for the post! What helps me with cold is to put some white rice in a sock, tie a knot to keep the rice in, and then microwave it for 30 seconds or so. Then I just keep it on my desk and put my hands on it from time to time. I also use it on my feet because they get really cold too even with socks on! I hope you warm up soon!!

    Cold here in Michigan, too. Just filled my bird feeders and yikes my face and fingers are frozen. Getting ready for another snowmageddon early next week. We’ve watched both seasons of Mrs. Maisel and love that show. We are one episode in to Grace and Frankie. We’ll see how that goes. I just finished reading “Where the Crawdads Sing”. I thought that was a great read. Stay warm!
