My Beauty Obsession – A History

Beauty Obsessed

I have been a beauty product obsessed girl ever since I can remember.  That being said, I am still the woman who pretty much only puts makeup on if I need to go out in public or film a YouTube video.  I think it’s important for readers to get an inside look at the blogger behind the website, and while you all know quite a bit about me, I wanted to take a minute and tell you exactly why I got into beauty blogging. It all starts with 3 brands you might have heard of.

I don’t even remember when I started using lip balm, but my mom’s favorite was always Lip Smackers, so naturally, when I chose lip balm that was my choice too.  Having been a loyal Lip Smackers girl since a very young age, I vividly remember when my parents let me get a new release from the brand.  I was in 6th grade and I had gotten my hands on a Lip Smackers Sponge-on Sparkler.  (That specific product name doesn’t exist anymore, but I found this on their site and I’m willing to bet it’s the same product)  I was ecstatic.  The super subtle wash of berry color accompanied by the scents I adore from the brand..I felt so hip and girly.  It was a great feeling.

Around the same age (11 or 12) I was introduced to another product that started a relationship with a brand that I am still loyal to today. Bath and Body Works walked into my life in the form of their Cucumber Melon body lotion. I can still see the mint green shade of the lotion and the original label.  For quite some time it was taken off the market and occasionally resurfaced only during the semi-annual sale, but it turns out (at least online) my old favorite is available once again!  Thanks to this scent, I started shopping the store regularly, and my passion for Bath and Body Works is what landed me my first real job years later: a sales associate at their flagship store at Woodfield Mall.  I’m pretty sure the manager was super impressed with my interview demo, where I knew everything about the product already. That job lasted me all though college, and while I’ve moved on, my love for Bath and Body Works forever lives on.  I still shop there regularly and can’t help but use the coupons they send out.

So, I was a little bit of a junkie from a young age, but the beginning of my long, passionate love affair with cosmetics happened while I was shopping at Woodfield one day around 12 or so years ago, and I walked into this brightly colored little corner store right by Bath and Body Works.  I can’t for the life of me remember the name of the store, but it is now a Hannah Anderson.  I do remember the exquisite lineup of pretty things, including an eye catching display of eyeshadow duos by a brand I had never heard of called Too Faced Cosmetics.

I know, I know.  Laugh away..

I bought this amazing duo in the shade “Bon-Bon.”  One side was a stunning peachy pink with golden shimmer, and the other side was a taupe infused with silver glitter.  I’m drawn to all
things that sparkle, so this was perfect for me.  The chic black square packaging had the silhouette of a girl with a ponytail on the front.  I remember it perfectly. (I searched everywhere and can’t for the life of me find a picture of it now.)  I was elated with my makeup find.  Little did I know it was the start of a love affair that would last forever.

I’m not sure how much time went by, but one day when I was at Woodfield I noticed that the little store had closed.  I was heartbroken because I wasn’t sure where I would be able to obtain more products this lovely brand.  Fast forward.

I had acquired enough knowledge in the beauty world to figure out I should check out this store called Sephora (laugh again, it’s fine..).  As I was taking my first walk through Sephora (still in Woodfield mall.  My entire love of shopping came from that mall.) I was entranced by all of the brands and products that were at my finger tips. Then, I saw it.  A Too Faced cosmetics display! The brand I had feared never seeing in store again was right in front of me with a display much larger than in that little corner store I encountered earlier.  They even had my precious eye shadow duo (in updated, round packaging) among the display.  From that day on, Sephora had my interest, and I began my journey into the world of high end cosmetics.

There you have it.  That’s how it all started.  Then I discovered beauty YouTubers thanks to searching some of the products I bought later on, and from there I discovered beauty blogs.  After watching videos and reading beauty blogs for awhile I got to thinking: I love this stuff (and am quite knowledgeable) as much as the girls putting out content.. Why don’t I start putting out my own and share my passion with the world??

And so, I did.

While that journey is a completely different story, the short of it is Diva and the Divine is now here.  While I cover several different subjects, my love for beauty products will always be a part of me and therefore, a part of Diva and the Divine.  From skincare to chapsticks and eye shadow palettes, I love it all.

And it’s all thanks to a seed planted by Lip Smackers, watered by Bath and Body works and brought to life in vivid color thanks to Too Faced Cosmetics.  I love you all!
