7 Spring Must Haves

Springtime has finally arrived and it is glorious. Granted, it’s still a tad chilly here in Chicagoland, but the sun is shining and there is no snow on the ground at the moment so I will take that as a win. To me, spring means freshness and renewal, as well as a time to prepare for summer. This got me thinking about some of the products I tend to use or fashion items I tend to look for in preparation for the warmer months. Since I found (or already use) some pretty awesome things, I figured I’d share some of them with you.

Fashion

You all know I’m not huge on fashion blogging, nor am I really a fashionista in any sense of the word. I love things that are comfy and easy to move in. I consider it a bonus if they look super cute. My fashion picks are two things I recently aquired and love, and one thing I’d just love to have.

First, let’s talk about my “would love to have” item. I feel like a good looking, clean cut and flattering denim jacket is a great piece for spring. I’m really getting into the basic T with a fashion jacket over it look, and having a nice denim jacket would be the perfect addition to anyone’s spring wardrobe. This jacket from Macy’s is super cute and gives great lines and is decently affordable (and as of 4/12 it’s on sale).

I saw this amazingly bright chrome t-shirt from White House Black Market online and ever since I saw it I could not stop thinking about it. As I said before, basic tees are something I wear on the regular, and a lot of my tees are dressed up ones with a little bit of sparkle. I love all things glittering and shiny, so I needed to see this shirt in person. The other day, I went to the store and tried it on. It’s everything I ever needed in a chrome colored t-shirt! Flattering, shiny, and not see through. Epic win! Even better, WHBM was having a 40% off the entire store sale, so the shirt landed in a more reasonable price range. Needless to say I now own it and can’t wait to wear it out.

Finally, I would be doing you a disservice if I didn’t tell you about my latest purchase from Grace & Lace. I bought their super stretch zip up midi shorts and they’re basically the best pair of shorts I’ve ever owned. I had them in time for my latest trip to Florida, so I was able to give them a solid test run. They’re stretchy all over, including an elastic band in the back which helps keep things super comfy. The length is perfect: long enough to not be showing your booty, but not so long that you feel like you’re in Bermuda shorts. They come in several denim shades as well as new colored pairs as well. I currently own the olive green and the mid wash denim, and I just ordered a pair in black. I will likely acquire most, if not all colors eventually. I wear a medium, but they are clingy enough (not constricting though. They’re perfect!) where I know that if my body dropped a size, they’d still fit fine. This will be my most comfortable and stylish shorts season ever!

Beauty

My first spring beauty choice is my all time favorite spring nail polish: OPI You’re Such A Budapest. For several years now it has been my go-to springtime purple shade. It’s light and fresh, and I truly feel like it’s a purple shade that can go with almost anything spring has to offer. I wear it all the time during the spring months and I will continue to do so until OPI stops making it.

Sticking with the pretty purple theme, I have been loving Stila’s Glitter and Glow eyeshadow in the shade “Plum On.” I own several of these shadows, and while they’re all amazing, this deeper (but not too deep) purple shade is the perfect pop of color to was across my lid. It offers me my favorite color and a little bit of sparkle, which basically makes it my perfect eye shadow.

In the warmer months, I love using a lip gloss with a hint of color. I recently discovered the brand Lano and am obsessed with the two lip products I already own by them (a strawberry lip treatment and their original ointment), so when I saw they had these pigmented glosses, I knew I had to get them. While I don’t have them yet, my Ulta 20% off coupon just came the other day, which means I will own them soon. If they’re anything like the Lano products I already own, then I’m certain I’ll love these too.

Finally, I think a spring refresh means something new and awesome to your skincare routine. One of the best serums I’ve ever used in my life is the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate. This magic potion is packed with good for the skin ingredients that make my skin soft, smooth, and I swear it even helps clear things up a bit. It’s one of my all-time favorite facial serums, and I’m pretty sure it’s perfect for all skin types, making it an ideal universal suggestion as a new step in your skincare routine. Have you tried this serum?

5 Ways To Boost Your Energy WITHOUT The Help Of Caffeine!

Energy is something that I think at least 95% of us feel we need more of on a regular basis, and we definitely go to some extreme measures to get what we feel we need. Caffeine is the drug of choice for so many of us (myself included) and while the morning cup of coffee is essential, it isn’t long before we are downing 3+ cups just to get us through the workday. Then there’s energy drinks, caffeinated sodas, and even caffeinated gum and foods. Not that I’m personally complaining about the existence of any of these things (well, except maybe soda, but that was never my thing), but thanks to the daily availability and consumption of caffeine in our lives we are starting to become dependant on the stuff to keep ourselves going. This got me thinking…

There has got to be a better way! I will never give up the morning ritual of my hot cup of Joe, but when 2 pm rolls around and I’m itching for a boost, I don’t want to have to depend on coffee to get me through.  I decided to start messing around with other options. Recently, I heard Rachel Hollis say something about how our energy needs to be created, and I realized she was right, so the next time I started to fade, I started to brainstorm alternative options, and I came up with some great ones and have started implementing them into my daily practices. Now, does this mean I no longer reach for a little caffeine boost sometimes? No. I’m only human which means I’m not perfect, however, I have been loving using alternate options only to discover they work just as well as (and sometimes better than) and afternoon cup of coffee.  Here are a few of my favorite ways to boost my energy sans- caffeine.

1. Get Pumped Dance Party

The music lover in me might be biased, but there is something so energizing about turning on one of your favorite energizing songs and dancing around for a bit. Sometimes it’s just bopping around while standing up ( have to get a break from sitting!) and some days it turns into a legit, jumping around, fully choreographed, chasing Gracie around the house dance party. After just a song or two, I notice I start to feel re-energized and a little more clear-headed all at the same time. Below is my current “Get Pumped” playlist.  Don’t judge! You’ve got to find the songs that work for you!

45 Ways To Reward Yourself Without Food

I’m not going to lie to you.  I love earning rewards. I am most definitely motivated to get things done by the fact I know there is a special treat waiting for me at the finish line.  It doesn’t matter if the task is getting a blog post up, getting the house cleaning done, or hitting another 5 lbs lost, I will always do a better and more efficient job with my tasks if I know there is something I’m working toward.  I know, getting the thing done should be reward enough, but I’m a huge sucker for positive reinforcement, and lately, I’ll do anything to help me avoid procrastination and get things done.

If you know me, you know that weight loss is one of my long-term, big deal goals.  For many people (myself included) it isn’t uncommon to have the reward for a job well done be a food related treat.  While this is great in theory (and some days it’s totally worth it), when one of your major goals is weight loss and healthy living, rewarding yourself with food is as counterproductive as it gets.  If you reward yourself with a big old piece of cake and ice cream for seeing a loss on the scale this week… it just doesn’t make sense!  That being said, I want to have plenty of options for how to reward myself without adding to my calorie intake, so I came up with a whole list of ways to treat yourself without food.

10 Things To Do This Month | June 2016

I’m seriously having a hard time with the fact it’s already June!  Don’t get me wrong, I am thrilled that the summer weather is here, but I feel like it was only a few weeks ago that my in-laws were here celebrating Christmas.  Time flies.

This month I decided that I didn’t want to do a “goals” post, but I wanted to take a slightly different route.  Here is my new “10 things to do this month” post, where we can take a look at 10 things that we want to accomplish or do.  Some things can be goal-like, but others can just be fun and simple to do list items that will make those of us who like to live seasonally feel a bit more seasonal.  Here’s my list of 10 things, but if you have something to add, comment below.  Read more

5 Ways to Celebrate Valentine’s Day Without A Man

Valentine's Day Without A Man

Valentine’s day might be the holiday where we all celebrate love, but who says you need a significant other to enjoy it? I won’t lie, I’m excited to be spending Valentine’s day with my Mister, but the only reason I get to do that this year is because it happens to fall on a weekend, otherwise he’d be off and away somewhere out of state working like he is every week.  If my husband wasn’t around, I would definitely still make the day great and choose to celebrate love without my man.  Crazy? Not at all!

Here are a few ways that we can show ourselves the self love we deserve, whether you’re single, taken and can’t celenrate with you love, or maybe you’re in a relationship but you simply hate Valentine’s Day.  Whatever the reason you’re not out on a date, make a date with yourself and spoil yourself just a little bit.  Self love is something we all need to work on.
