This month’s Sephora Play! box is themed “The Innovators.” I love the word innovation because it means there are new and exciting things on the horizon, and hopefully, they make things easier and better. The first thing I pulled out of the box is the paper that talks all about the different products I will find inside, which is nothing new. On the other side is an “Elements of Beauty” periodic table (so appropriate for the back to school season) which briefly explains many ingredients found in various beauty products, what they’re for, and what they’re found in. What a cool little educational tool to add to a beauty box. I will actually read this before tossing it in the recycling bin!
The drawstring bag is labeled “Makeup Geek,” still sticking with the back to school theme. As per usual, there is a play pass that will get you 50 extra points when you take it into Sephora stores.
Okay, moving on to the products. I’m actually pretty pleased with everything in my box this month. All of the products are practical, basic, and things I will actually use. Scroll down to see what I got in my box, then comment and let me know what you got in yours.
Kat Von D Saint Perfume: This month’s perfume sample is actually a duo, and part 1 is Saint by KVD. This perfume is perfect for daytime wear with its soft, lightly floral jasmine notes blended with musk and vanilla. I’m not typically a fan of my perfume samples, but this one is actually quite nice, and I will enjoy wearing it.
Kat Von D Sinner Perfume: I told you this was a two parter. We can’t have “saint” without “sinner,” can we? I didn’t think so. Sinner is definitely a warmer, more bold scent compared to saint, which is the point. Notes here include orange, patchouli, cinnamon, and vanilla. I like the way this smells too, as it gives off a sultry, sexy vibe, making it perfect for date night.
Brazilian Bum Bum Cream: I’ve seen this around a lot but I’ve never gotten the chance to try this crazy over priced body lotion. Seriously, it’s $45 for 8 oz. It had better work miracles for that price. This lotion claims to smooth and tighten the look of skin while delivering intense moisture. I get why this is exciting, especially for your legs in the summertime, but $45?! I will enjoy the sample while I have it, but I can promise you there is no way I will pay that much for a body lotion.
Beauty Blender Micro Mini: I was psyched to see this in my box because I love Beauty Blenders. The micro comes in 2 packs for $18, so this alone has a $9 value and I paid $10 for the whole box. Score! The micro mini is a super tiny version of the Beauty Blender, and it’s perfect for getting into those teeny spaces that are sometimes harder to get to like the under eyes, or for places where you want precision like concealing pimples.
Too Faced Mascara Melt Off Cleansing Oil: Here’s a product I have never heard of. It’s a great idea in theory, but I can’t help but wonder if it is actually necessary in a makeup removal routine since removing eye makeup results in (typically) mascara removal as well. This is a cleansing oil specifically for your lashes. Apply it and it will get even the most stubborn mascara off of your lashes with ease. No tugging or eye abuse required. There are also lash conditioning ingredients in there to help your lashes stay in tip-top shape. Is this legit? No idea.
Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer: This intense full coverage concealer promised to cover all of your problems: dark circles, blemishes, you name it. It’s a long wear formula that claims easy blendability, but on the 2 occasions I’ve tried it I am definitely struggling to get a non-cakey look from it. I’m thankful for the chance to try it because I’ll either learn how to use it properly or learn that it’s not for me.
Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo: I love dry shampoo, as it is a massive time saver. There’s nothing like being able to take 60 seconds and revive day old hair without the whole shower/blow dry process. PHD claims to leave no visible residue behind while absorbing oil and making hair look and feel clean. I feel like I’ve tried this once before and wasn’t all that impressed. Hopefully this time is different.
