Sephora Play! August 2016

Sephora Play August

It’s always a happy day when my Sephora Play! box comes in the mail.  I didn’t do any posting about it last month, but I discovered a few new things that I love thanks to that box, so I figured why not start telling people whats in the subscription?  Since I canceled my Birchbox subscription last month, my Sephora box is currently the only beauty subscription I currently have.

Each month Sephora has a theme, and August’s theme was “The Eye Openers.” As one who currently struggles with things like under eye circles and puffiness, I was anxious to see what was inside my box.  Here’s what I found:

Make Up For Ever Artist Shadow in I-544

I am a huge fan of the MUFE Artist Shadows.  They’re smooth, buttery, and blendable, so I was super excited to see this beautiful pink granite shade in my box.  I was a little less excited when I discovered it was a shade I already had in my MUF Artist Palette Vol 1.  Either way, it’s a beautiful color.

Sephora Collection Contour Eye Pencil Waterproof

I am very picky about my eyeliners.  I tend to love waterproof, stay all day formulas, and that’s exactly what showed up in my box.  I got a beautiful taupe color, perfect for every day.  At first swatch the formula glides on incredibly smooth.  If it is in fact as long wear as it’s supposed to be, at only $10 a pencil, this has the potential to replace my favorite Urban Decay eyeliners, which are twice the price.

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara

This lengthening and volumizing mascara from one of my favorite brands has  triple black pigment to ensure the blackest black eyelashes.  I’m only slightly less excited about this because I prefer water resistant formulas of mascara, but this will be great for a night out or a day that I want to add a little extra drama to my eyes.

Lancome Energie De Vie Moisturizer

This serum-gel like formula (which was surprising to me as it came out of the tube) is a concentrated energizing lotion that supposedly relieves dullness, signs of fatigue, and gives you a healthy, energized looking glow.  It feels very light refreshing on the skin, and is perfect for those last few weeks of hot summer temperatures.

Full Size: 1.69 oz @ $55.00

Sample Size: 0.16 oz

Sample Value: $5.20

Caudalie Resveratrol Eye Lifting Balm

A balm cream that reduces the look of dark circles and puffiness while lifting and smoothing the eye area.  This is definitely the type of product I need in my routine, as my under eyes are one of my big concerns right now.  Sadly, the sample isn’t large enough to establish if it truly works, but at least I can get a sense of how the product feels on my skin.

Full Size: 0.5 oz @ $62.00

Sample Size: 0.16 oz

Sample Value: $19.84 (which seems pretty ridiculous, if you ask me)

Bonus Fragrance Sample: Clean Reserve Blonde Rose

A nice floral musk scent that has a clean cotton note as well. I don’t count my fragrance samples in the grand total of the box simply because I’m not in it for the fragrances, and it appears the box contains a bonus perfume sample every month.

Full Size: 3.4oz @ $90.00

Sample Size: 0.05 oz

Sample Value: $1.32

Total Box Value (minus the perfume): $40.63

Now, while I don’t think the box has a personal value of $40 for me ($19 worth of eye cream? really?), I do in fact feel that it has a value well over the $10 I actually paid for the subscription.  In addition to the products in the box and the cute drawstring bag they came in, I also have a card good for 50 extra Beauty Insider points when I take the card to a Sephora store, which is halfway to another 100 point perk.  All in all, I am pleased with this month’s box, and I can’t wait to see what Sephora Play! has in store for the coming fall months.

Do you get the Sephora Play! box?  What did you think of your box this month?
