With Easter less than a week away, my tastebuds can’t help but long for the chocolate treats that I have been able to enjoy every single year: Fannie May Chocolate. Every year, for as long as I can remember, a solid milk chocolate bunny rabbit by Fannie May has shown up in my Easter basket. The confections that come out of this amazing shop fill my mouth and heart with chocolatey joy. The only problem is, this year I’m in North Carolina. There are a TON of store fronts in Illinois, and many in surrounding states, however, currently the nearest shop to me is in Ohio… That kind of puts a wrench in my “day after Easter” chocolate shopping 😉 However, even though I won’t have the tasteful pleasure of enjoying these confections this year, I still wanted to share some of my holiday favorites with you.
A pretty typical sight in any Easter basket is a chocolate bunny. Fannie May chocolate bunnies have made an appearance in mine every year. Unlike some store bought bunnies, these guys are completely solid. As I said, I’ve had these pretty much my entire life, but even after being on Weight Watchers I still enjoyed my annual bunny. I’d open up the package and proceed to chop off his head and then chop the chocolate body into individual serving sizes. Then my bunny is in pre-portioned bags, trackable, and ready to be enjoyed. What’s nice about these bunnies (other than the joy of solid chocolate) is they also come in white chocolate and dark chocolate, just incase you aren’t a milk chocolate fan.
Another familiar sight in my family’s Easter (and Christmas) festivities is a box of Fannie May Mint Meltaways. These are another treat that I can’t remember a holiday without. They’re little cubes of rich chocolate enhanced by refreshing mint. They are delightful! What makes them even better during Easter season is the bright pastel colors that are in the box. Rather than the typical brown and green mixture, you open your Easter box of Mint Meltaways to festive pastel pink, green, and yellow pieces. Beautiful and delicious.
A treat that is not a family favorite, but a personal favorite of mine is the milk chocolate vanilla buttercream eggs. I discovered my love for Fannie May vanilla buttercreams in college (I don’t know what took me so long!) and I haven’t looked back since. There is something SO fulfilling about these cream filled chocolates that I just can’t get enough. While I love the portion controlled option of the regular box of the year round buttercreams, there is something extra special about the cream eggs that come out for Easter. First of all, they’re extra large in size, as they’re giant eggs (1 per box) rather than the small candies. They also come in a variety of flavors. In addition to my beloved vanilla buttercream, you can get eggs in Green May (I think that’s mint, but I’m not sure), Trinidad, peanut butter, fruit, and a Pixie. I was late to the game on the buttercreams, but now they’re my all time favorite!
This was a little glimpse into my one of my family’s favorite Easter treats/traditions. I want to know: What are some of your favorite things about Easter? Do you have any traditions that make Easter feel like Easter? Let me know in the comments below.
If you’re interested in getting some Fannie May for yourself (they have a ton of other great options too), you can visit the Fannie May website. I know, if I can order online, what’s the big deal about the store not being near me? For one, I don’t like the idea of paying shipping for a store thats 5 minutes away from my parent’s house, and secondly, I love the experience of going to the store, especially the day after Easter/Christmas. You understand, right?
