Eating: No Cow bars on a daily basis. I LOVE that they’re a dairy-free, high protein bar that isn’t off the charts with fat.  They’re only 5sp per bar, which is easy for me to work into my Weight Watchers Freestyle plan. No Cow bars are always in my purse as the perfect on the go snack. Pro tip: the chocolate fudge brownie ones ACTUALLY taste like it. I’ve been loving enjoying one of those at night as my dessert.

Drinking: Other than the usual (water and coffee) I recently picked up one of the new flavors of Premier Protein: cookies and cream. Let’s just say the flavor is spot on. I don’t typically get iced beverages from Starbucks, but lately, on my way to physical therapy (where I need an extra dose of caffeine anyway), I have been stopping for my triple espresso over ice just so I can put the cookies and cream Premier Protein in there.  Delicious and only 2sp.

Reading: How Should A Body Be? by Bethany Maloche. It’s her personal story about living with CMT, which is the same disease I have. It’s been great reading someone else’s experience and feeling like I can completely relate. Full book review coming soon. Read more

5 Gifts To Buy Yourself For Valentine’s Day

Ah, Valentine’s Day. The day that in centered around romance, the pressure to have a date, wear fancy undies, and go all out for that special person in your life. As a married woman, I always love an excuse to do a little something extra special for my hubby, but I also have a few things that bug me about Valentine’s day this year:

  1. My husband isn’t even going to be home. My hardworking man is earning his keep in another state this week, which means I’m alone and romanceless.
  2. The truth is we should not need a holiday on the calendar to tell us it’s time to have a special night with our significant other. This should happen somewhat regularly.  What’s wrong with a random Tuesday in the middle of June? Nothing, that’s what.
  3. Who says this romantic day needs to be about someone else?? When is the last time you showed yourself the love and special treatment that you deserve?

Today’s post is about #3.  Just because Valentine’s Day is typically centered around someone else in your life doesn’t mean you should neglect yourself. Whether you are single and headed out on the town, have a hot date with your favorite person, are going out with the girls, or you’re like me and for whatever reason (married or not) you’ll be spending Valentine’s Day with no one but your dog, you can always do a little something for yourself. That’s why I put together a list of 5 different things you can (and should!) buy for yourself this Valentine’s Day. I kept it to categories rather than specific items because no one knows what you like better than you! Read more

Fit Girl Gift Guide 2017

Next on the gift guide list is a guide for what to get your favorite fitness enthusiast.  With the wide range of fun products that fit any budget, you’re bound to find something the buy your fit girl this holiday season.

Fitness Subscription Box

Subscription boxes are everywhere lately, from boxes for date nights to candy and chocolate, whatever your genre, there’s a box for that.  Fitness is no different.  If you want to try new supplements and treats that are for health enthusiasts, you could gift Bulu Box.  Not only is it a less expensive subscription ($10/month, but as low as $8/month with 6 or 12 month subscriptions), but there are also 2 boxes to choose from: an original or weight loss focused box.

Alternatively, there are also a ton of food-related subscriptions out there.  One that feels particularly healthy is Daily Harvest.  Originally, Daily Harvest was just premade soups and smoothies, but they’ve expanded to include overnight oats, chia parfaits, and even sundaes.  They send frozen superfoods, preportioned, straight to your door, and all you do is keep them frozen until you’re ready to use them.  I’ve tried several of the smoothies, and they were delicious.  I know I’d love to see a Daily Harvest gift under my tree this season!  You can gift a box of goodies or just buy a gift card and let your recipient choose their own.  Use this link and get 3 of your first 6 cups for free!  That’s a reason to gift a little to yourself too 🙂  Read more

How To Make The Most Of A Rainy Day

I went to bed last night to an awesome summer thunderstorm that I figured would blow over by morning, but when I woke up this morning, thunder was still rumbling and it was so dark I needed to turn on all of the lights like it was 8pm.  Not an ideal way to start the day, but at least it inspired a blog post. I’m all about taking the little wins lately, so let’s roll with it.

It’s dark and gross outside, which completely destroys my motivation to do much of anything except sit on my couch and binge watch Netflix.  I have to leave home to go to the gym (and I hate driving in rain..that’s a story for another day), and I truly believe that I run on sunshine and coffee, and there is zero sunshine to speak of, which means my battery is flashing on low.  So, what’s a gal (or guy) to do?  Now, I have the rare lifestyle where I don’t actually have to get up and go to work since my occupation is “housewife” followed closely by “blogger,” which means I have the option of not leaving the house.  While I know many of you don’t have that lifestyle, that doesn’t mean you won’t find yourself with a gloom and doom day at home at some point this summer.  Here are a few ways you can make the most of it.

XO Marshmallow Kickstarter

kickstarter

With the weather cooling down I start to appreciate hot beverages even more than normal.  Along with my hot coffee, there’s tea, apple cider, and of course, hot cocoa. The perfect addition to hot cocoa is obviously fluffy, delicious marshmallows.

Why am I telling you this in mid-September? I’m glad you asked!

I want to tell you about a Kickstarter that went live today by a local to me (Chicagoland) marshmallow company, XO Marshmallow.  I happen to know one of the two lovely ladies that runs XO Marshmallow (Lindzi from The Trendy Sparrow), so I jumped at the chance to get a sneak peek at their latest creation and give it a try.  Meet XO Marshmallow’s latest creation: the Monut!

img_3095

The monut is XO Marshmallow’s delicious recipe transformed into a doughnut shape.  Now, some of you may be asking “why do I want a marshmallow shaped like a doughnut?”  Well, it just so happens that the size of these monuts happen to fit perfectly inside a mug, which means you can take your hot cocoa and marshmallows to a whole new level.

Since I didn’t have any hot cocoa laying around to have with my new treat, I decided to make some decaf coffee (my new thing if I want coffee in the afternoon. All in the effort to get better sleep.), although if you wanted an extra shot of sweetness in your morning cup, I say go for it. I made the coffee, added some chocolate salted caramel creamer (yum!) and put the cocoa dusted marshmallow monut on top.  After a few minutes, it started to melt and the result was an amazingly delicious cup of afternoon coffee. It also gave me a very Instagram-worthy photo. 🙂

I ate the vanilla one on its own to get a true sense of what XO Marshmallows tasted like, and I was quite pleased.  They were soft and delicious; not overly sweet, but they had a great flavor. I was quite impressed and immediately wished I had more flavors to try.

While this is their latest creation, XO Marshmellow has some awesome designer sounding flavors of their regular marshmallows too, such as salted caramel (which I really need to try), Kaluha coffee, matcha, honey lavender, and more.

Seriously, how amazing do all of those sound?  Boozy champagne is perfect for a girl’s night out (or in!), and there’s even a beer flavored one, which would make a really interesting and unique gift for any beer lover in your life

XO Marshmallows are egg free, gluten free, dairy free (except salted caramel), and contain no high fructose! The ladies choose only the finest local ingredients to include in their marshmallow making, so it’s will truly be a gourmet experience.  What a treat!

As I mentioned, today they launched their Kickstarter to help fund not only their Monut but their desire to become bigger and better.  Lindzi and Kat are looking to get a bigger kitchen space as well as upgraded packaging, and equipment to help send XO Marshmallow to the next level, and you can help.  Head over to their Kickstarter campaign and consider backing their project.  They’ve got some great rewards for backing XO Marshmallow, which include Monuts and their original marshmallows in whatever flavor you want. I know that’s the route I’m going to go, as I’m now dying to try some other flavors and I can support these amazing lady bosses at the same time.  It’s a win-win all around.

What flavor of XO Marshmallow would you be most interested in trying?

I was sent my monuts, but only after I expressed interest in helping these ladies get the word out.  There should be more spreading the love and the word, don’t you think?

10 Things To Do This Month | June 2016

I’m seriously having a hard time with the fact it’s already June!  Don’t get me wrong, I am thrilled that the summer weather is here, but I feel like it was only a few weeks ago that my in-laws were here celebrating Christmas.  Time flies.

This month I decided that I didn’t want to do a “goals” post, but I wanted to take a slightly different route.  Here is my new “10 things to do this month” post, where we can take a look at 10 things that we want to accomplish or do.  Some things can be goal-like, but others can just be fun and simple to do list items that will make those of us who like to live seasonally feel a bit more seasonal.  Here’s my list of 10 things, but if you have something to add, comment below.  Read more

Hello From Japan!

Hello my friends, and happy 2015!

Thank you for being okay with my holiday time hiatus, but now that I’m settled in our little apartment in Japan where my husband will be studying at the local university for a few months, and have internet access, I can get this blog up and running for the new year.

To start it off, how about we talk a little bit about my year thus far?

Song of the Week: Friday!

I apologize in advance for this one, but you know that it was inevitable with my Song of the Week posts being on Friday mornings that this song had to pop up.  As I sat down to type, my husband thought it would be funny to turn it on and sing to it, and the lightbulb went off that this should be today’s song.

Now, we all know that it’s not a very good song at all, but there is something about the teenage pop style and energy in “Friday” that makes it pretty impossible to not sing to (and maybe even dance around to), no matter how lame you might feel afterward, and that’s exactly what happened this morning.

I woke up determined to be in a better mood than I have been the last few days.  I want to be productive, it’s clean slate day for my Weight Watchers Points, and I’m on spring break!  A dorky beginning to my day is exactly what the doctor ordered.

So turn this on, dance and sing like a fool for a few minutes and get excited because IT’S FRIDAY!
