I haven’t always been on the brow game train. It wasn’t until rather recently that I started paying attention to my brows at all, and at first it was only because my sister complained about how lame and sparse they were. After finding my discovery and use of the original Benefit Gimme Brow and the Anastasia Brow Wiz pencil, I truly began to appreciate how much better done brows made me look and feel. While I don’t think I will ever have the skills to make my brows “on fleek,” I do pay attention now, and because of that I managed to obtain a few of the items in the new brow collection from Benefit Cosmetics, and I wanted to give you my two cents about them.
While there are 10 products in the brow line (who knew we needed 10 different products?!), I am only going to be talking about 3. These happen to be the 3 that I think are most practical to own: Gimme Brow, Goof Proof Brow Pencil, and Ka-Brow cream-gel color. While I purchased the Goof Proof pencil because I needed a new brow pencil, but I obtained the other two in sample sizes,; one from my Birchbox and one from a bonus with a Sephora order. While they aren’t all full size, I feel this gives me enough experience with them to justify a review.
The way I want to talk about these 3 products is in terms of coverage, like with foundation. I actually really like all 3 of them for various reasons, but I found it very easy to classify each as a light, medium, or full coverage eyebrow product, and I find all 3 to be useful for different reasons
Gimme Brow is a product that I have purchased twice before, and I just bought the full size of the new launch. I received a deluxe sample of the new Gimme Brow in my Birchbox last month, and after trying it I knew I was going to buy it.
Gimme Brow is my “light coverage” brow product. It is a tinted eyebrow gel microfibers that actually adhere to the hairs that are already there, making your brows appear fuller and more defined. I love that Gimme Brow is pretty fool proof, as you just take the little wand and brush it through your brows, and if you get product where there’s no hair I find it’s very easy to wipe away. This ease of use is what drew me to it the first time I bought it. It does not give you boldly defined brows, but it does make sparse brows feel much more complete. This is perfect for your natural look or makeup-free days, which for me, is almost daily.
The relaunch of Gimme Brow added a new shade, so now there are 3 total: Light, Medium (new), and Dark. I actually find that my shade of brown hair works best with the darkest shade of Gimme Brow.
For my “medium coverage” product, I’ve been loving the Goof Proof pencil. This pencil has a unique shape that makes filling your brows really easy and legitimately fool proof. I hold this uniquely shaped pencil vertically to fill in the inner half of my brows, as I find the size is perfect for me. Once I hit the arch, I turn the pencil slightly to get the thinner line which is great for finishing off my arch. You can layer this product to be really light, or quite bold, and it blends easily with the spoolie at the other end of the pencil, so no matter how much coverage you choose, it’s well blended and looks pretty natural.
Good Proof‘s formula has 12 hour water resistant wear and comes in 6 shades. I’m using shade number 6, which you would think would be a black shade, but its more of a granite/deep taupe shade which happens to work great for my shade of brown hair.
For the full coverage, bold brow effect, Ka-Brow will be your go to. This is richly pigmented and definitely gives the bold “brows of fleek” look. There is an angled brow brush built right in to the cap, making it easy to take on the go. Personally, this is the product I’d reach for the least because it gives a much higher level of glam to the brows, which is perfect for a date night or dressing up, but not everyday wear (in my casual housewife lifestyle opinion). Ka-Brow is supposedly 24 hour waterproof wear and has a buildable coverage, so if you prefer a brush application as opposed to a pencil, this product just might be for you. It comes in 6 shades.
The packaging of the entire Benefit brow line is beautiful. Each of the products mentioned above retails for $24 and can be found at Sephora, Ulta, at the Benefit site, or department stores that sell Benefit.
While I love these 3 products, as I mentioned, there were 10 products launched in the new line. Some are great, and others (in my opinion) seem completely unnecessary. I can get behind clear eyebrow gel, but someone please explain to me why my brows need a primer or a 3d toned highlighter.. I don’t even have highlights (or dye of any kind) in my hair! I think that those two products are the most unnecessary of the bunch. They also relaunched an eyebrow shaping kit and also have several brow highlighters (for under the brows, not the brows themselves) which I’m sure are great. Am I crazy for thinking those other two products are a tad excessive? Maybe if I tried them I’d change my tune. *shrug*
All in all, the new brow line from Benefit is full of great products that suit so many different people. Whether you have blonde hair or the deepest brown, Benefit has a shade for you, and no matter what your brow style is, there’s a product that can help you achieve it. I don’t own much from Benefit, but with how well they treat my brows, I feel like I should give them a shot in other areas as well.
Do you own any of the new Benefit brow products? What do you think of them?
*I purchased these products with my own money or got them as samples along with something I paid for. Not sponsored. All opinions are my own.
